Welcome back to Nanavision! We had some DNS problems with our webhost which resulted in an outage that lasted several days. That downtime prompted me to go ahead and move forward with a site redesign I’ve been contemplating for a couple of months. We’re moving to a blog format which will allow for easier updating and better archiving. I will also be setting up an actual gallery to house all those great photos of Nana that we have.

The site did come back up just a little sooner than expected, so you’ll be seeing the “in progress” version for a few days.

Nana Visitor

If there’s one shared mythology in this civilization, it would arguably be the pantheon of Star Trek. Among the many inspiring and bold characters that have graced the screen (whether it be in the original series, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine or Voyager), most would argue that Major Kira, for many the first taste of the bajoran temperment, struck a nerve as a strong, capable and downright heroic personality. Nana Visitor, the woman who portrays Kira, is not unlike that herself. Articulate and focused, Visitor has been steeped in the world of show business from infancy (her father was a Broadway choreographer and her mother taught ballet and ran a dance studio)… and in a recent phone conference, MacGamer had an opportunity to ask her about what might be her most unique role ever; that of computer gamer heroine (with a bunch of other web site reporters… not all the questions below are mine).

TV ZONE visits the set of Deep Space Nine, and finds Nana Visitor preparing to say her farewells…

The view is stunning. We’re standing on the upper level of the Deep Space Nine promenade, looking through the vast window to the stars of the Bajoran system. Below us, crowds of people are going about their daily business. It could all be real, but, of course, it’s not: the set on the soundstage at Paramount studios is a solid, beautifully crafted piece of architecture. Totally enclosed, it gives one the impression that you’ve arrived in a tangible alien culture.

She loves her character, she loves the show itself and, as everyone in the universe knows by now, Visitor is deeply in love with co-star Alexander Siddig, with whom she’s been romantically involved with for more than a year.

Mother with a Mission

Six weeks before receiving the call to audition for the role of First Officer Major Kira Nerys in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Nana Visitor gave birth to a baby boy named Buster. Motherhood immediately went at loggerheads with the aesthetics of Visitor, an actress with more than 20 years experience under her belt. As Visitor remembers it, motherhood won.

Introducing the Intendant

Still Fighting for Freedom

“It’s interesting everytime we leave and come back for another season,” says Nana Visitor. “The first time it seemed like we had a month off. And then it seemed like two weeks. Now it seems like it was just a weekend. You just get right back into the rhythm and into hating Dukat and looking forward to lunch and being on the Paramount lot. It’s a rhythm that I’ve gotten into immediately.”
